Why Do Data Centres Use So Much Water?

Data centres consume large amounts of water for cooling, mainly through evaporative cooling.

This method absorbs heat from servers using water, which then evaporates to remove the heat. While up to 90% more energy-efficient than traditional refrigerant systems, it can use up to 18,500 gallons of water daily for a 1 MW data centre.

Though highly efficient, the growing water demands of evaporative cooling raise concerns as data centre capacities expand.
