What was the first US combat aircraft?

The de Havilland DH-4, based on the British de Havilland bomber design, is considered the first combat aircraft used by the U.S. Army Air Service during World War I. This American-built version played a key role in observation and bombing missions. Although initially not ready for combat, it became a significant asset for the U.S. military once deployed.
