The Leaning Tower of Pisa currently leans at 3.97 degrees, but at its worst, it tilted at 5.5 degrees, putting it in danger of collapse. Construction began in 1173, and the tilt started early due to the unstable ground beneath.
Efforts to fix the lean over the centuries often worsened it, with the tower continuing to sink. In the 1990s, a major restoration project successfully reduced the tilt and stabilized the structure by removing soil from under the foundation.
Today, the tower remains stable and safe for visitors, with engineers expecting it to stand securely for at least 200 more years.
